Boy Scouts & Venture Scouts:

CATHOLIC RETREAT-O-REE: September 11-13, 2009

This will be the 22nd annual Retreatoree sponsored by Catholic Committee on Scouting. The Retreatoree will be held at Pipsico Scout Reservation Camp Lions, Spring Grove, Virginia. This event combines Boy Scout and Girl Scout activities - volleyball, boating, disc golf, and other fun outdoor events, as well as time to reflect during the retreat sessions. There will be Saturday morning Mass, Reconciliation and Sunday morning Mass. Boy Scout Religious Emblems Counselor Training will be offered on Saturday. This event is for all Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Venturers, and Sea Scouts!

VENTURING CHALLENGE: September 18-20, 2009

ATTENTION ALL YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN AGE 14 OR WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE 8TH GRADE!! The Venturing Challenge is a great weekend that promotes team spirit and outdoor skills development. This event will be a Team Adventure Race utilizing team of 2, 3, or 4 people. Events include: Map & compass Navigation, Climbing/ repelling, Orienteering, canoeing, mountain biking, rifle/ shotgun shooting, and archery. The cost is $35 per person which includes all meals, registration, awards, and the Toga Party on Saturday night!!!

FREEZE-O-REE: January 29-31, 2010

Get prepared for an fun filled weekend at Pipsico Scout Reservation. Gain much needed rank advancement service while helping to improve YOUR CAMPING FACILITY. Lunch will be provided on Saturday complements of the Order of the Arrow cook crew. Stay tuned for more information on this event.

"Get Lost in the Woods" ORIENTEERING WEEKEND: February 19-21, 2010

This weekend will be an opportunity to complete Orienteering Merit Badge. The use of map and compass to find locations and plan a journey, has been a vital skill for humans for thousands of years. Orienteering is also a recognized sport at the Olympic Games, and thousands of people participate in the sport each year in local clubs and competitions. All Boy Scouts and Venturers are invited to a weekend of Orienteering, with instruction courtesy of James River Orienteering Club (JROC). You can attend on a provisional basis, therefore you unit need not attend for you to participate. Stay tuned for more information on this event.

PIONEERING WEEKEND: March 12-14, 2010

Just how did people survive without duct tape? This is an opportunity to earn your pioneering merit badge – learn that you can create items from the world around us – what are the different knots used for and can you really make rope? This event is open for all Boy Scouts. You can attend on a provisional basis, therefore you unit need not attend for you to participate. Stay tuned for more information on this event.

LUMBER JACK WEEKEND: April 16-18, 2010

This event is open for all Boy Scouts and Venture Scouts. You can attend on a provisional basis, therefore you unit need not attend for you to participate. Stay tuned for more information on this event.

CANOEING WEEKEND: June 11-13, 2010

Explore the James River while you work on your Canoeing Merit Badge. Participants will explore the beautiful cyprus groves along the James and be trained in the proper techniques including safety of going on unit canoe trips. This is a suggested weekend for any units that do canoe trips during the year in that sending an older scout will allow him to bring back these experiences to your unit.. This event is open for all Boy Scouts and Venture Scouts. You can attend on a provisional basis, therefore you unit need not attend for you to participate. Cub Scout Programs:

    CUB SCOUT PACK FAMILY CAMPOUT- August 28th- 30th, 2009:Cub Scout Image

    The Please join us for a fun weekend for your whole family to explore Pipsico and try your hand at the climbing tower, archery, bb shooting, swimming, and geocaching. Those areas will be staffed by the great volunteers of Tidewater Council, so you can relax and have a good time with your kids. Siblings are welcome because it is a Family camp out. Bring your own food, camping gear, and Cub Scout cheer for a fun weekend with Cub Scout families from all over the council. We will have a camp-wide campfire on Saturday, so start practicing your skits and songs. All of this for $10 per person! That is a great deal for a great weekend. We will offer a Pancake breakfast on Sunday for an additional $4. Bring the whole Pack so you can work on scheduling for next year, or hold an outdoor Pack meeting.
