Camp is for you, too
We want you to benefit as much from camp as your Scouts do. Take advantage of
our many adult programs to grow in Scouting and put some extra fun in your week.
Get Involved
We know one of the main reasons you come to camp is to make sure your Scouts
get everything they deserve out of their summer camp experience. Without a
doubt, the best way to do that is to become an active part of that experience.
Visit the program areas where they spend their time; if you have expertise to
offer in a particular area, our staff will welcome an extra set of eyes, ears,
and hands. This is especially true in the Huskanaw program, where you are
ultimately responsible to certify that your Scouts have met the advancement
requirements.
Beyond the program areas, our camp (and therefore your boys) will benefit from
special skills you can offer in many other areas - maintenance and repair,
technical, medical, culinary, to name a few. We will also offer underwater
basket weaving.
Adult Training
Have you been too busy to get the training you need? Did you bring along some
new leaders or adult volunteers you hope will take a more active role in troop
leadership? Then take advantage of our wide selection of training while you’re
with us! Here’s some of what we offer:
- Fast Start
- New Leader Essentials
- Youth Protection
- Safe Swim Defense
- Safety Afloat
- Climb on Safely
- Leave No Trace
- Trek Safely
- Risk Zone; Safe Scouting
Most of these sessions are approximately one hour each. Additional topics will
be announced at the leaders' meeting when you report to camp. In addition to
regularly scheduled training, our staff will be glad to work with your leaders
one-on-one to teach or refine any Scouting skills you wish to develop.
Certification Training
Adults who are willing to commit the majority of their time at camp may earn
certification as BSA Lifeguards or Lead Instructors for Climbing. Anyone
choosing either of these options must understand that it is a major commitment,
leaving little time for other activities while at camp.
Informational Programs
At our Monday evening session on the Order of the Arrow and High Adventure, we
will offer special sessions explaining these programs from the adult leader’s
perspective. We will share personal experiences to show how these programs can
benefit you and your Scouts, and how they can strengthen your unit. We will
offer guidance on how you and your unit can become more involved in these
enriching aspects of Scouting.
Adult Competitions
Add some spice to your week and maybe win a special treat for your troop while
you’re at it. Be sure to enter one or more of our adult competitions. These
include a canoe tug-of-war on Tuesday evening in conjunction with AquaFest,
a desert cook-off judged at dinner, and a "watermelon shoot" at shooting sports on Wednesday afternoon.
Perhaps the greatest test of your Scouting skills is our unique Ultimate Easy
Chair Contest. Leaders are challenged to build easy chairs using no manmade
materials other than rope or twine. The results will be judged at the lunchtime
gathering on Thursday based on ingenuity, workmanship, and comfort.
Bringing it All Together
There is no better way to make sure you accomplish all these objectives than to
work on Mamanatowick’s Mantle, our adult leader recognition program.
Leaders who complete this program will receive a special recognition of their
commitment to Scouting ideals.
