 Leaders' Guide
Dear Fellow Scouters:

Happy 100th anniversary! There is so much to look forward to this year in your troop’s annual calendar as we celebrate a century of Scouting. The Scouting movement has earned recognition and visibility throughout the years as a symbol of good character matched with unparalleled expectation of wellroundedness in our youth and adults. To be a part of our program commands respect to onlookers and the community.

This year is a special one, like many before. Now we have a responsibility to the next 100 years; a responsibility to give Scouting stretch marks. This year we want to push the envelope a little more by adding new activities like paintball and by making traditional programs more interactive and FUN!

No matter your tenure in Scouting, or your troop’s dynamic, a good time is just around the corner. Huskanaw is a Powhatan Indian word for “Rite of Passage” and our name for the Camp Lions new Scout program. The purpose of Huskanaw is to work on advancement through the First Class Rank. If new leaders want to participate or observe and bring back useful tools to troops, we couldn’t be happier. The merit badge program is exceptionally diverse. Eagle required merit badges are included in our menu along with a tremendous variety of others. In fact, at Camp Lions we offer counseling in over 40 merit badges. Read on for a complete listing. Special programs are part of the evening schedule and include Aquafest, caveman golf, redneck games, target paintball, the cobbler cook-off, horseshoes, volleyball, campfires, adult leader competitions and fellowship. We also have great high adventure opportunities for land lubbers and
sailors.

I look forward to speaking with you, and meeting you at camp. Get your reservations in.

See you at camp,

Evan W. Sommerfeld

Camp Director
