KEMPSVILLE DISTRICT'S SPRING NEW MEMBER NIGHT

Thursday April 29, 2010 will be Spring New Member.  Start preparing to have the biggest and BEST recruitment for 2010.  Units should set up location, time, and contact information so that flyers can be prepared and distributed at schools.  Please give all your information to Danielle Hughes (757)534-8500 or danielle.hughes@scouting.org by March 22nd.

DISTRICT PINEWOOD DERBY

March 6, 2010 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School Cafeteria, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach sign up to attend and participate in the Kempsville District Pinewood Derby.  Deadline for registration is Thursday March 4, 2010 no later than 5:00pm.  Derby Entry Fee is $5.00 per car.  Any questions please contact Dana Kelly @ 490-0805 or danakelly@cox.net

Come watch local drivers race ˝ scale stock cars at speeds up to 50mph on a high-banked indoor track. Each event night includes a minimum of four 50 lap races for a total of 200 “in your face” laps of side by side racing!

Derby Date:      Saturday, March 27, 2010

Derby Location:    Pembroke Mall, 4554 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA  

Derby Eligibility:  The top three finishers of each Rank (Tigers, Wolves, Bears, 4^th Grade Webelos, 5^th Grade Webelos) from each District Pinewood Derby are eligible to enter this event. 

Derby Entry Fee: Ten dollars per car ($10.00) 

Derby Registration Deadline:  Racers must be registered at the Tidewater Council store

ROUNDTABLES

Roundtables are important and are a wealth of information for all leaders.  Make sure at least one person is in attendance to represent your unit.  Come enjoy, learn, and have fun!!

COMMISSIONERS 

KEEP RECRUITING DRIVE-ALL YEAR ROUND

Scouts remember making a pinewood derby, catching their first fish, camping outdoors, and having smores with their cub scout pack late at night, more importantly then what video game they played last week.  When you talk to an adult who was in Scouting when they were younger, they always remember what they learned and how it pertains to them now in what they do.   Make a difference in a youth's life and give them an experience in the World of Scouting.  Make sure every boy has that chance by recruiting in your unit.  Without an active recruiting program we will soon have less youth to serve and have less opportunities to be relevant to the youth of our district.

REGISTRATION

As a Unit, remember that when someone pays you to be registered, they shouldn’t have to wait a week or more to REALLY be registered.  They pay the fee and give the application to the Unit, but they aren’t registered until the money and application is turned into the Council Service Center with the correct information and signatures.  It is very important to turn in your applications as soon as possible.  For their safety, yours, and the youth we serve.  Please contact Danielle Hughes @ (757) 534-8500 or danielle.hughes@scouting.org if you have any questions.

DISTRICT REGISTRATION

Don't forget to pay your registration fee to recharter.  Please submit $17.00 to the Council Service Center and your name to re-register.  If you are a new registrant, fill out an application and submit with $17.00.

MERIT BADGE COUNSELORS (MBC)

Make sure your merit badge form is completed with a background check form and application.  Youth Protection should be taken every 2 years!!  Units need to make sure that their members are getting their merit badges signed off by a registered counselor.  If your unit does not have a current list, have any questions, or need to turn in MBC applications, please contact Lisa Murdock @
