There are exciting opportunities for fun, service and personal development for young men, young women and adult leaders in Tidewater Council's Scouting programs.Please note that if you are interested in joining Scouts, the best way to accomplish this task is by calling the membership hotline at 757.773.8389. There is no "after hours" on the hotline - call anytime.
You can E-mail: Tide596bsa@aol.com. Please tell us the city and state you live in, the elementary school closest to your house, the age and grade of your child for the best service. We will gladly answer any of your questions.

What does it cost to join?
It costs $15.00 a year for registration and $5.00 a year for accident and sickness insurance at all Scouting activities.

Tiger Cubs are for boys in who are
7 years old or in first grade and their adult partners. The program stresses simplicity, shared
leadership, learning about the community and family understanding. Each
boy-adult team meets for family activities, and twice a month all the teams

Cub Scouting is a family- and
den-centered program for boys in the second through fifth grades (8, 9 and
10 years old). Fourth- and fifth-grade (10-year-old) boys are called Webelos
Scouts and participate in more advanced activities that begin to prepare
them to become Boy Scouts. Cub Scouting combines fun with educational activities and lifelong values. It also helps parents to help their boys strengthen character, develop good citizenship, and enhance both mental and physical fitness. In addition, the program provides boys with positive peer groups and tools to shape their future. | |

Boy Scouting is a program for boys 11 through 17, and is designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster. | |

Varsity Scouting is an active program for young men 14 through 17. It is built around five program fields of emphasis: advancement, high adventure, personal development, service and special programs and events. | |

Exploring is the young-adult
program of the Boy Scouts of America for men and women ages 14 through 20.
The program is developed by local community organizations such as
businesses, industries, professions, churches and civic groups to match the

Venturing is a program for young men and women who are 13 through 20 years of age. Venturing provides positive experiences through exciting and meaningful activities that help youth pursue their special interests to grow, to develop leadership skills and to become good citizens. | |

Confidentiality of Membership. The Boy Scouts of America has the responsibility to protect the confidentiality of the names and personal information of those who are affiliated with the movement. No commercial or unauthorized use is to be made of the lists (names, addresses, and other personal information) of members or of financial supporters, or those who answer surveys in connection with Scouting. The council does not authorize anyone to make copies, paper, electronic or by any other means any such lists for any reason without the permission of the Tidewater Council. When a list is needed it will be authorized and it shall be returned or destroyed. All such authorizations shall never exceed a one year time frame. Chartered organizations should take care to guard the lists that contain their members.
