Nominations for District Committee members are currently being accepted

If you have suggestions of people that you feel would be willing to be nominated and serve on the 2010 District Committee, please forward your suggestions to District Nominations Committee Chairman Scott Easton at 472-7370 or e-mail him at scott@eastonadv.com. No nominations can be accepted from the floor at the District Annual Business meeting scheduled for January 5, 2010.

January 5, 2010 is the District Annual Business Meeting

At this meeting, the annual nominations and election of the coming year’s District Committee will be conducted.  The meeting is open to all current District Members At Large, Chartered Organization Representatives and Council Members At Large residing within the district.  The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. Following the election, the district will conduct its regular monthly meeting.

District Recognition Awards nominations are due January 12, 2010

You can recognize and honor your fellow Scout leaders by submitting a nomination form to recognize them for their dedication, contribution and support of the scouting program(s) in the district and/or your unit.  The award nomination forms have been sent out via e-mail, will be distributed at the next roundtables and are posted on the district web site.

Nominations are due and must be received by January 12, 2010.

There are many ways to say “THANK YOU” to your unit leader, here’s just one of them:

An ideal opportunity to say “Thank you” to your Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Crew Advisor, Ship Skipper or Post Advisor is by sending them (and their “significant other”) as guests of your unit to the Annual Chowanoc District Recognition Dinner.  The Annual Chowanoc District Recognition Dinner event is scheduled for February 27, 2010.  At the Annual District Recognition Dinner your fellow Scout leaders will be honored and recognized for their outstanding dedication, devotion and efforts to the Scouting programs and youth during 2009.  As in the past, it should prove to be very entertaining as well for all who attend.

The chart below shows the number of youth registered in each unit month by month.  It is
provided to help each unit see how their unit recruiting and program are attracting and
retaining members.
The color code used in the chart is as follows:
GREEN The unit is growing!  (there are more youth registered in the unit compared to the
  previous month)
TAN  Flat line (there are the same number of youth registered as in the previous month,
  there has been NO growth)
RED Danger! -  Beware! (there are fewer youth registered in the unit compared to the
month(s) before.  A sign that something needs to be done to invite new members)
The unit leadership needs to make a special effort to invite more youth to join
their unit through a "Invite a Friend" recruiting event (aka Peer to Peer recruiting),
or conduct a special New Member Night or conduct a special unit event of some
type that will provide the opportunity for new youth to learn about Scouting at their
school, in their neighborhood and/or at their place of worship.

We all need to keep in mind that inviting new youth to join your unit needs to happen year
round - not just in the spring and fall.  More importantly, every unit needs to provide the
opportunity for EVERY eligible youth to experience the Scouting program, especially during
2010 - Scouting's 100th Anniversary year.
