About Camp

The Boy Scouts of America is a very family-centric program. In order to embrace, and make sure that the Pipsico Scout Reservation is in alignment with the goals and values of the Scouting program, we now also welcome siblings to enjoy this camping experience.

This summer, Pipsico Scout Reservation is pleased to offer two overlapping overnight camping experiences, an Arrow-of-Light/Webelos Summer Camp and Cub Family Summer Camp. The Arrow-of-Light/Webelos Summer Camp is a 4-day, 3-night program geared specifically for our Arrow-of-Light and Webelos scouts that will help prepare them for their transition into the Scouts BSA program. Our Cub Family Camp is family-friendly and open to Tiger through Bear scouts, family members including siblings, and den chiefs. It is a 3-day, 2-night program.

Pipsico is the perfect spot for your family to have a great outdoor adventure. It has 916 acres of land, with a mile of beach on the bank of the James River in Surry County, Virginia. On the beach you can find fossil remains of sharks and whales amongst the shells. It is home to bald eagles, blue herons, wild turkeys and much more. Facilities include an air-conditioned dining hall, a swimming pool (zero-entry access), the newly refurbished showers in the pool house, a separate shower house and latrines (for both male and female participants), a fully equipped health lodge, a trading post, shooting ranges and more.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in the camp’s theme during their stay at Pipsico. As you travel through the day’s activities, everyone may participate in swimming, games, and hiking; however, some activities are just for the Cub-age participants, such as shooting sports and crafts.

Daily Activities

After breakfast each day, the scouts will assemble into dens (Tiger, Wolf and Bear ranks) or patrols (Arrow-of-Light and Webelos) for a fun-filled day of activities. Cub Family Summer Camp participants’ activities include handicrafts, nature, swimming, fishing, archery, BBs, and more. Arrow-of-Light and Webelos activities also include repelling, canoeing, air rifle, and scout skills. Scouts will have opportunities to work on some of the many new Cub Scout electives introduced this year.

All meals for the weekend will be served in the Dining Hall. Your Pack will be asked to provide a

table host and a waiter for each table at each meal; duties of the table host and waiter will be explained at check-in. Normally, you will have one or more camp staff members as your guests at each table. Guests are chosen by selecting camp staff members’ totems and placing them on the tables prior to the meal. Be sure to select different totems for each meal so you can meet a variety of camp staff. Lunch is served cafeteria-style.

There will be two camp-wide programs during the weekend. These are the closing campfire program on Saturday evening and the Scout’s Own interfaith worship service on Sunday morning. All scouts should be encouraged to attend the worship service as part of their  “duty to God.”
