Scout Fest 100 is THE big event of the fall - Albemarle has a simple goal of 100% participation all signed up by September 20 . . .  Will you get the best prices by recruiting new members and selling popcorn?

Training!

The long awaited on-line Cub Scout Position Specific is here!  www.MyScouting.org, e-training, Cub Scout - pick your job and GO . . . Tidewater Council is focused on making 100% Cub Scout Trained leaders the standard, not the exception.  Jump on board and get it done today!

POPcorn is In!

Get your program fully funded, and give your parents a financial break by getting a supply of popcorn, setting up show and sell locations or loading up the little red wagon and go SELL!  There are units in North Carolina who have singularly sold over $48,000 in popcorn giving their members a great program and the families paid NO DIRECT costs.  That potential exists in Albemarle district - which unit will be the top selling unit this year?

Ideas of how to get it moving quickly -

  • Arrange a sale at your chartering organization

  • High traffic convenience stores

  • Weekend breakfast restaurants

  • Community day

  • Auto parts stores (VERY successful)

  • Hardware stores

  • and the list just grows - opportunity is where you make it, not where you wait for it!

There will be monthly prizes to top selling Scouts and units at Roundtable.  If your unit has not signed up and you want a chance to earn your Scouting year contact District Executive, Dana Mott to get on board.

The 100 % Gang!

Congratulations and THANK YOU to the three Albemarle units who have achieved 100% Youth Protection Training for their positions.  Keep getting your leaders trained and join Troops 100, 117 and 150 at being the leaders of the 100% gang.

Thank You Scouters

Troop 116's Scoutmaster Randy Spruill is facing some challenges.  The good news is after almost two months of hospitalization in Norfolk, Randy is going to rehab at Pitt Memorial in Greenville.  With plenty of moral support and prayers, that stay may be shorter.

Friends of Scouting

The district is significantly behind in fundraising to support YOUR council - in fact Albemarle has raised only slightly over 10% of the council established goal to allow full support of district operations.  While some people may think that no money is spent "down here", the truth is quite the opposite.  Volunteers - in fact the community at large - have certain expectations

  • There will be flyers at every school, several times every year

  • Teachers, school offices and Principals are happy to see a gift of popcorn in their box

  • Signs will be readily available for everyone's use

  • The store will be open when someone shows up at the door

  • The executive will bring things down for any unit in a reasonable timeframe

and the list grows from here.  While there is a cost attached to every item on the list, no one ever receives a bill for services rendered - nor will they.  On-going support is how those "bills" are paid.

Every family knows their individual financial situation and what their budget may bear.  Please consider what Scouting means in your community and click on the headline to get a commitment form to support YOUR council.  In addition to what may be accomplished within the Scouting family, look to the community - family doctors, local businesses, your employer - for other people who could be invited to support the future of Tidewater Council.  Albemarle's executive is available to meet with any potential community donor, just pass the information along and the meeting will be scheduled.

Pack 167 Needs a Home!

Situations have arisen that makes it necessary for Christ Episcopal Church to discontinue chartering organization Pack 167.  Contrary to rumors, the pack is not dissolved but in fact released to move to any other location.  Please assist the district in finding a new location in Elizabeth City for Pack 167 to continue offering Scouting to the community.  Contact Larry Proctor or Dana Mott to offer information and assistance.

Boy Scouts and Service to Others

North Carolina's Boy Scouts pledged to Governor Perdue that 100,000 service hours would be provided to the state during 2010.  There is an accessible, user-friendly webpage set up to record the service hours performed during the Boy Scout centennial year:  www.ncbsaservicehours.com where hours are reported on a county by county basis.

In early 2011, the goal is to report to the Governor that Scouts not only met, but exceeded the service hours pledge.  Each unit in Albemarle district is strongly encouraged to report service hours monthly.

To date, Albemarle district has not reported ANY hours to the above site.

If you should have any questions or concerns regarding www.ncbsaservicehours.com please contact Veronica Porterfield of the Occoneechee Council office at vporterf@bsamail.org.
